Biography of Peter James Harper

Peter James Harper

Peter is currently the Executive Chairman of Harper Bernays Limited, a firm established in 1988 to provide bespoke discretionary funds management and family office services to high net worth individuals and their families, and the not for profit sector.
In recent years, he has also spent considerable time managing and acting as co-trustee of the Harper Bernays Charitable Trust, which supports a range of charitable activities in the arts, medical research, the environment and poverty relief, both in Australia and the wider Asian region.
Peter has been directly involved in the finance and securities industry since 1973, and during that time has gained extensive experience in banking and merchant banking with the ANZ Banking Group, BA Australia Limited (Bank of America’s Australian Investment Banking arm), and Hill Samuel Australia (now Macquarie Bank Limited). Peter became involved with stockbroking in 1984 and ran Bain and Company’s (now Deutsche Bank) worldwide equities division with responsibility for its operations throughout Australia, and in the London, New York, Singapore and Hong Kong markets. Subsequently he became the Managing Partner of MacDougall and Company Limited, a member firm of the Sydney Stock Exchange, which he and his partners sold to the Bank of Singapore’s Australian stockbroking operations in the early 1990’s.
Peter graduated B. App Sc (Hons.) and has an MBA from Melbourne University and was, until its listing, a member of the Australian Stock Exchange. Peter has two adult sons and lives in Sydney, Australia with his wife Stephanie. His interests are wide and eclectic including, in addition to his modest gardening activities, music, art, rugby and history.
